Mistrial declared after two days in Toledo murder trial

(Posted at 1:40 p.m.)Judge Frederick McDonald declared a mistrial in the murder trial of Charles McDonald after two days of testimony in the case. Judge McDonald issued the mistrial after learning hair found at the scene had not been tested by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations regional lab in Bowling Green.





(Updated at 11:33 a.m.) A man and a woman were killed and two teens were hurt when a motorcycle and a car collided about 10:35 last night at West Central and Glenwood avenues. All victims are from Toledo, authorities said. Lamont Layson, 25, of City Park Avenue, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene.

(Posted at 10:36 a.m.) A fire of yet unreported origin destroyed a vacant duplex on Bluff Street near Ottawa Drive in central Toledo, authorities said. Fire crews arrived about 8:33 a.m. at the two-story building at 3557 Bluff St. and observed flames at multiple locations.

(Posted at 10:29 a.m.) MONROE A 41-year-old Dearborn, Mich. man was killed early this morning when the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving went off Grafton Road, at North Stony Creek Road in Frenchtown Township, and struck a ditch, according to the Monroe County Sheriff s office. Scott A. Nalepa, who was wearing a helmet, fell off his motorcycle after striking the ditch about 1:30 a.m. He came to rest in a field on the south side of Grafton, deputies said.

(Posted at 9:39 a.m.) At least one person was hurt this morning when a police car and a van were involved in an accident on Airport Highway near Brysen Avenue in south Toledo. Authorities said the van s driver left the scene of the accident, which occurred about 7:24 a.m. at 3150 Airport.
