Robert Jobe indicted for murder in gun death of police detective

(Posted at 4:55 p.m.) A North Toledo teen, who is accused in the shooting death of a Toledo police vice detective, was indicted this afternoon by a Lucas County grand jury on murder charges. Robert Jobe, 15, is charged with aggravated murder and murder, both with gun specifications. The charges are a result of the Feb. 21 shooting death of Keith Dressel.

(Posted at 10:54 a.m.) A 17-year-old girl escaped unhurt from a burning house in West Toledo this morning after a neighbor banged on the doors and woke her up. She was home alone. Brittany Katafiasz was sleeping in her mother s house at 2840 Trimble Rd. near Breezeway Drive about 8:20 a.m. this morning when a neighbor noticed heavy smoke, called 911, and ran over to bang on the doors.

(Posted at 2:22 p.m.) About 1,400 volunteers fanned out in neighborhoods, commercial areas, farm fields and woods to search Thursday missing woman who was 9 months pregnant when she disappeared.The turnout was the second-largest of 704 searches by the internationally active group Texas EquuSearch, which brought in sonar equipment to check ponds and a remote-control airplane equipped with a camera to look for any sign of 26-year-old Jessie Davis.

(Posted at 2:25 p.m.) Space shuttle Atlantis skipped its two landing opportunities Thursday because of showers and clouds at Kennedy Space Center. Mission Control said opportunities at Kennedy, the primary landing site, look slightly more promising on Friday and Saturday.

(Posted at 10:17 a.m.) BAGHDAD -- The U.S. military said 14 American troops have died in several attacks in the past 48 hours, including five slain Thursday in a single roadside bombing that also killed four Iraqis in Baghdad. The latest U.S. deaths raised to at least 3,545 the number of American troops who have died since the war began in 2003.

(Posted at 11:30 a.m.)The Perrysburg Board of Education will meet Friday morning to hire Thomas L. Hosler as the district s new superintendent. Mr. Hosler s three-year contract will pay him $120,000 annually and will have the same cost-of-living increases as other senior administrative staff, said Walter Edinger, the school board president.

(Posted at 7:29 a.m.) The wreckage of a steamship that sank in 1850 after its boilers exploded has been discovered at the bottom of Lake Erie. Thomas Kowalczk, an amateur shipwreck prospector, used sonar on his boat to discover the General Anthony Wayne in 50 feet of water, about eight miles north of this northeast Ohio city, the Great Lakes Historical Society announced Wednesday. The side-wheel steamship, named in honor of Revolutionary War hero Gen. Mad Anthony Wayne, sank in April 1850 while en route from the Toledo area to Buffalo, N.Y. Thirty-eight of the 93 passengers and crew on board died.

(Posted at 9:35 a.m.) Fire crews battled a house fire this morning at 2840 Trimble Rd. near Breezeway Drive in West Toledo. There was no word of injuries or the cause of the fire as of just past 9 a.m.
