TARTA schedules bargain day for riders

6/21/2007

TARTA will waive fares on its express commuter buses today, sell bus tokens at a deeper-than-normal discount, and hold an open house at its garage and offices to mark the second annual "Dump the Pump Day," coordinated by the American Public Transit Administration.

All 12 express bus routes running from Park-and-Ride lots will offer free service today to encourage commuters to ride.

The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority headquarters, 1127 West Central Ave., will be open to visitors from 1 to 4 p.m., and 25-token rolls, which usually sell for $22.50, will be offered for $20.

TARTA's basic one-way bus fare is $1, with half-fares for people over 65 years old or who are disabled. Weekly passes cost $10 and monthly passes cost $40.

Park-and-Ride bus lots are at St. Luke's Hospital and Holiday Plaza in Maumee; the Miracle Mile, Southland, and Southwyck shopping centers in Toledo; Country Charm, Zoar Church, and River Place in Perrysburg; St. Joseph Church and Centennial Terrace in Sylvania; the Meijer store in Sylvania Township, and Waterville Plaza and Second and South streets in Waterville.
