MONROE - The U.S. Coast Guard continues searching Lake Erie today for two people missing from a 17-foot pleasure power boat found capsized yesterday afternoon in the shipping lanes about three miles off the coast near Detroit Edison Co.'s Fermi 2 nuclear plant in Monroe County, authorities said.

The boaters, who are from the Wayne County area, launched from the Wyandotte municipal docks sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday, the Monroe County sheriff's office said. The boaters' names were not released.

The capsized boat was spotted from a container ship that was passing by. It was unknown where the boat actually capsized, deputies said.

The boat's owner and operator is on vacation, so his wife did not find it unusual when he did not return home. Coast guard officers have been in touch with the family of the boat owner. They still are to contact the family of the passenger, whose last known address is in Belleville, Mich., sheriff's deputies said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact dispatchers at the Monroe County sheriff's office at 734-243-7070 or at the Wayne County sheriff's office at 313-224-0414 or to call the U.S. Coast Guard in Detroit at 313-568-9560.
