'Scooter' McDougle won't be charged, dad says

(Posted at 2:12 p.m.) Harvey Scooter McDougle Jr. will not be indicted by federal prosecutors, nor will he testify against fellow teammates in a point-shaving case, his father told The Blade today. The University of Toledo football player met with federal prosecutors Wednesday, and according to his father, was told by his attorney that he would not have any further charges filed against him.

(Posted at 3:50 p.m.) DETROIT Struggling auto parts maker Delphi Corp. reached a tentative wage-cutting agreement today with its largest union in what may set the pattern for future pay in the U.S. automotive parts industry. The deal, which still must be voted on by Delphi members of the United Auto Workers, was signed just before a 1 p.m. meeting between the UAW leadership and presidents of the union s locals.

(Posted at 3:40 p.m.) UNIONTOWN, Ohio A woman has admitted to leaving a newborn on the doorstep of a home in rural northeast Ohio, and law enforcement officials have determined the baby does not belong to a missing pregnant woman, according to Wayne County Sheriff s Department. The baby was left outside a home about 45 miles from where Jessie Davis, the missing woman, lived. Davis, 26, was reported missing one week ago today.

(Posted at 12:25 p.m.) Drop tower rides at five amusement parks owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. will be closed and inspected after an accident on a similar ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom severed a teenage girl s feet above the ankle. The ride at the park in Louisville lifts passengers 177 feet straight up and then drops them at speeds of 54 mph.

(Updated at 9:46 a.m.) MONROE - The U.S. Coast Guard continues searching Lake Erie today for two people missing from a 17-foot pleasure power boat found capsized yesterday afternoon in the shipping lanes about three miles off the coast near Detroit Edison Co.'s Fermi 2 nuclear plant in Monroe County, authorities said.
