MONTPELIER, Ohio - A couple from New York were killed yesterday after their car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer in stop-and-go traffic on the Ohio Turnpike in Williams County, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Timothy Fitzgibbons, 29, the car's driver, and his wife, Natalie, 30, both of Hamburg, N.Y., were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers at the patrol's Swanton post said.

The semi, driven by Willard Terry, 48, of South Bend, Ind., slowed because of traffic just after 5:35 p.m. and the car hit it in the westbound lanes about 4 1/2 miles from the Indiana line, troopers said.

Mr. Terry was not hurt.
