UPPER SANDUSKY A Carey, Ohio, couple were killed and a Wharton, Ohio, man hurt last night when a car and a pickup truck collided at Wyandot County roads 96 and 47 in Salem Township about 65 miles south of Toledo, the Wyandot County sheriff s office said.

Paul Collet, 63, the driver of the car, and Nancy Collet, 61, the only passenger in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff s deputies said.

Steven Fredritz, 45, of Wharton, Ohio, who was trapped in the wreckage for a time, was airlifted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital. Mr. Fredritz was listed in serious condition this morning, a nursing supervisor at the hospital said.

The Collet car was northbound on Road 96 about 8:55 p.m. when it failed to yield at a stop sign and struck the Fredritz truck, which was eastbound on Road 47. The Collets were not wearing seat belts, deputies said.
