The Blade s Road Warrior advises readers each Friday where the biggest driving headaches will be throughout the construction season. He ll tell you the locations to avoid and the detours to take.

Be very careful about using I-275 to go to Detroit Metro Airport next week. On at least two days, the Michigan Department of Transportation is expecting two of the freeway s three lanes to be closed each way in northern Monroe County while epoxy sealer is applied to bridges.

MDOT hopes the work can start at 7:30 a.m. Monday and be completed within 48 hours, but because the work depends on dry weather, the schedule could change

several times and on very short notice. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and, if it s supposed to be dry for a couple of days, expect these lane closings to pop up.

I-75 to U.S. 24 and Eureka Road is a possible alternative to go to Metro, but watch out for construction north of Fort Road near Gibraltar. Allowing extra time to get to the airport during rush hours next week is certainly recommended.

If you were skeptical about the mid-July completion date for road and sewer work that has closed Russell Road near the future Shops at Fallen Timbers there, pat

yourself on the back. Or groan, whichever feels right.

The Maumee Department of Public Service announced this week that the continuing work now won t be complete until Sept. 15. The posted detour uses Dutch and Waterville-Monclova roads, but depending on where you re headed, it may make more sense to use Monclova Road to get to neighborhoods north and west of

the mall site that are currently cut off from U.S. 24.

The city s notice that Superior Street closed Monday between Jefferson and Madison avenues for construction of the new downtown Toledo sports arena said the street

would be closed indefinitely.

We deem the word permanently more descriptive, since part of that block has been formally vacated by Toledo City Council and the rest will become an arena-related plaza. For commuting purposes, Superior no longer exists between Jefferson and Madison.
