Pak wins Farr Classic for 5th time, thanks to late birdies

(Posted at 5:20 p.m.) Si Re Pak won her fifth Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic on Sunday, fighting off Morgan Pressel by making birdies on three of the last four holes. Her victory ties Mickey Wright and Annika Sorenstam for the most wins at an LPGA tournament. Pak, a South Korean, finished the tournament with a 17-under par 267 to collect the $195,000 winner's check. Pressel closed with a 69 and was three shots back at 270. Pressel did score a hole-in-one on the sixth hole. The 23rd annual tournament was played at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania.


(Posted at 2:01 p.m.) A 2-year-old boy was hurt today when he fell out of a second-floor window at Bayview Apartments in north Toledo, police said. The boy, who police said is a son of Genevieve Zielinski, 23, was taken to Toledo Hospital from 3501 East Manhattan Blvd., where the accident occurred. The boy, whose name was being withheld, appeared fine, officers said.

(Posted at 12:30 p.m.) BOWLING GREEN A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train early this morning on the northbound CSX railroad tracks near East Lehman Avenue, police said. The victim, whose identity is being withheld until family members are notified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The person was found beside the tracks by a police officer shortly after the CSX alerted police about 4:20 a.m, authorities said.


(Posted at 12:22 p.m.) ELMORE, Ohio Houses in the vicinity of the 3300 block of South Dischinger Road were evacuated yesterday afternoon after a 60 millimeter mortar was found along the bank of Sugar Creek just west of the Dischinger Road bridge. The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad from Toledo later destroyed the mortar without incident, the Ottawa County sheriff s office said.
