Toledo City Council members pave way for balanced-budget charter amendment

(Posted at 5:21 p.m.) Toledo City Council members this afternoon approved seeking a change in the city s charter that would require the mayor to send them a balanced budget each year. The proposal which still requires the mayor s signature before it could be placed on the ballot for voters later this year was pushed recently after council members were forced to trim more than $10 million from the city s $241.7 million budget.



(Updated at 11:45 a.m.) A Bettsville, Ohio, man was killed early this morning when his car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig on U.S. 20 in Troy Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. Scottie L. Prenzlin, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 5:30 a.m. near Stony Ridge, Ohio, located about 14 miles southeast of Toledo.

(Posted at 7:55 a.m.) An Erie, Mich., man was killed last night when the motorcycle he was operating collided with an Ohio Department of Transportation pickup truck-trailer rig in the eastbound lanes of I-475 at Central Avenue in west Toledo, police said.

(Posted at 6:19 a.m.) Two people were hurt when their motorcycle hit a deer about 11:30 p.m. yesterday in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 just south of Airport Highway in Springfield Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Anita Lopez, the Lucas County auditor who campaigned on the notion that many county residents were unfairly taxed in last year s property revaluations, has placed an informal review form online that she said will make it easier for property owners to dispute those assessed values.
