NORTH BALTIMORE Village Police Chief Gerald Perry was placed on paid administrative leave yesterday while the village conducts an investigation about complaints it received about the chief and the procedures he follows, said Kathy Healy, village administrator.

She declined to comment on the nature of the complaints but said Mayor Ned Sponsler decided to put the chief on leave and ordered him not to speak with anyone involved in the investigation to prevent anyone from accusing him of interfering with the investigation.

He s just being asked to stay home until we finish the investigation, Ms. Healy said. If nothing is found to be inappropriate or improper he could be back on the job next week. If there is some foundation to some of the allegations then they ll be dealt with accordingly.

Chief Perry could not be reached for comment.
