Truck driver is injured on turnpike

8/6/2007

MILAN, Ohio An Indiana truck driver was hurt in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Erie County yesterday when the tractor apparently hydroplaned during heavy rains, authorities said.

Eric J. Boise, 51, of Demotte, Ind., was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, then flown to University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. His condition was not available.

Mr. Boise was about two miles north of Milan in Oxford Township, driving east in the middle lane, at 4:15 p.m., when the vehicle apparently hydroplaned.

The semi struck a car in the left lane, and the trailer, which was hauling 40,000 pounds of paper, overturned.

The tractor, which had become separated from the trailer, went over the guardrail and into a ditch.

The driver of the car, James C. Casey, 54, of Cleveland, was not hurt.
