2 shot and killed at Perrysburg Twp. business; man arrested in Michigan

(Posted at 6:15 p.m.) Two people were shot and killed at a Perrysburg Township business Wednesday afternoon, and a man was arrested across the state line in Michigan about three hours later, authorities said. The names of the dead have not been released, but a Findlay man, Calvin C. Neyland, 43, was arrested and taken into custody in Monroe County. Police said the suspect fled the scene of the shooting at Liberty Transportation in Perrysburg Township in a red semitrailer cab.

Space shuttle Endeavour blasted into orbit on Wednesday evening carrying teacher-astronaut Barbara Morgan, who after more than two decades is finally carrying out the dream of Christa McAuliffe and the rest of the fallen Challenger crew. Endeavour and its crew of seven rose from the seaside pad at 6:36 p.m., right on time, and pierced a solidly blue sky. They re expected to reach the international space station on Friday.

(Posted at 4:28 p.m.) The first pieces of the 60-year-old Toledo Sports Arena began to fall this afternoon with Mayor Carty Finkbeiner s ceremonial swings of a sledgehammer into the back wall of a warehouse behind the arena. Mr. Finkbeiner made contact with the warehouse wall on Toledo s east side at 3:39 p.m. He took two more swings, then handed the sledgehammer over to members of city council and members of the Marina District team.

(Posted at 1:55 p.m.)JAKARTA, Indonesia A powerful earthquake under the Java Sea hit Indonesia's capital city early Thursday, violently shaking tall buildings and panicking residents. There were no immediate reports of damage, and geophysicists said there was little risk of a tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, which struck at 12:04 a.m. (1:04 p.m. EDT Wednesday) had a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 and was centered about 66 miles east of Jakarta at a depth of 180 miles. Residents said tall buildings and single story homes shook violently in the city of 9 million people. El-Shinta radio reported that the quake could be felt from Sumatra island in the west to Bali to the east.

(Updated at 1:55 p.m.) HUNTINGTON, Utah Crews hoping to get food and air to six coal miners drilled to within about 1,000 feet of the trapped men Wednesday, and hoped to reach them in about two days, one of the mine s owners said. It still isn't known whether the miners were alive more than two days after the initial cave-in. But the news was substantially better than the night before, when crews had to halt drilling because of unstable ground..

(Posted at 10:22 a.m.) DELPHOS, Ohio A woman going through some things at her parents home opened a trunk that had belonged to her great-grandfather and discovered several explosives, apparently from World War II, authorities said. Sherri Kunz summoned police, who found two grenades, two mortars and one military style flare and called in other authorities Tuesday, detective Dale Metzger said.

(Posted at 8:50 a.m.) Donnamax Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y., is recalling DentaPro brand Cavity Fighting Fluoride Toothpaste Fresh Spearmint Flavor and Bright Max Toothpaste because the products, which were made in China, may contain diethylene glycol. The chemical is found in antifreeze and is toxic to the kidneys and liver. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company.
