Festival changes parking spots

8/26/2007

Parking for the German-American Festival in Oregon has changed because of recent storms in the area.

Those planning to attend the event, which runs from noon to 8 p.m. today, should park at either Starr Elementary School, 3230 Starr Ave., or Fassett Middle School, 3025 Starr. Transportation to and from the festival grounds will be provided from the two schools for free.

Festival activities at Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman St., will continue rain or shine.

The new parking locations do not affect the $5 round-trip shuttle bus service that's new to the festival this year to promote responsible driving. Buses depart every 30 minutes from the festival to the Toledo Meijer stores on East Alexis Road and West Central Avenue, the Value City Furniture store on Monroe Street near Secor Road, and the Lucas County Recreation Center on Key Street in Maumee.

Admission today is $3 per person, and free for children age 15 and under when accompanied by an adult and free for active military, police, fire, or EMS personnel with proof of employment.
