PORT CLINTON Two men were seriously injured in an accident last night when the vehicle they were in went off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then was hit by an oncoming car, authorities said.

Joel M. King, 31, 1729 Lockwood Rd. in Port Clinton, who was driving eastbound on State Street in Portage Township about 10:24 p.m. yesterday, was attempting to drive left around a curve when he drove off the right side of the road and then over corrected back onto State Street, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol s Sandusky Post said.

Mr. King then drove off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, and came to a rest on the road. The vehicle was then struck by an oncoming car driven by Jordan Krupp, 25, of 529 Fulton St. in Port Clinton.

Mr. Krupp was driving eastbound on State Street and tried to swerve around Mr. King s vehicle, but struck it, authorities said.

Mr. King was taken to Magruder Memorial Hospital in Port Clinton with serious injuries, authorities said. A hospital nursing supervisor said there was no patient there by that name.

His passenger, Jeffery Schill, 29, of 225 West 5th St. in Port Clinton, was airlifted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.

Mr. Krupp and his passenger, James Dress, 25, of 140 Ash St. in Port Clinton, were not injured in the accident.

Mr. King was cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license, and failure to maintain reasonable control, authorities said.
