PORT CLINTON - Two men were hurt seriously Monday when their car went off State Street in Ottawa County's Portage Township, struck a guardrail, and then was hit by a pickup truck, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Joel M. King, 31, of Port Clinton, who was the driver of the car, was taken to Magruder Memorial Hospital, Port Clinton, with serious injuries, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky Post said. The hospital had no patient by that name, a spokesman said.

His passenger, Jeffery Schill, 29, also of Port Clinton, was airlifted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Mr. King was eastbound on State about 10:25 p.m. when he failed to round a curve and struck the guardrail. Mr. King's car then was struck by the truck driven by Jordan Krupp, 25, of Port Clinton, troopers said.

Mr. Krupp and his passenger, James Dress, 25, also of Port Clinton, were not hurt.

Mr. King was cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, and failure to maintain reasonable control, troopers said.
