5 are hurt as pickup hits bus on Airport Highway

Five people were hurt yesterday when a pickup truck hit a TARTA bus that was stopped along a curb in the 3000 block of Airport Highway near Elmdale Road, authorities said.

The truck driver failed to stop when the vehicle in front of it passed the bus about 7:50 a.m., authorities said. Those injured were bus passengers.

Mary Matuzek, 60, of 2012 Madison Ave. and Glenda Howard, 48, of 1337 Lincoln Ave. were taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio. The hospital said it had no patients by those names.

Walter Strickland, 55, of 2012 Madison Ave. and Amador Grasela, 59, of 3039 Upton Ave. were taken to Toledo Hospital, which said it had no patients by those names.

Pricilla Flores, 37, of 2012 Madison Ave. was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. The hospital said it had no patient by that name.

The truck's driver, Michael Dominguez, 18, of 4401 Dorr St., was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance, police said.
