Kidney failure in 3 kids sparks Wood County probe

9/8/2007

BOWLING GREEN The Wood County Health Department is investigating why three young relatives have sudden, short-term kidney failure from a complication typically associated with E. coli.

Two siblings and a cousin became ill with hemolytic uremic syndrome in the last two weeks. One of them tested positive for E. coli. Officials declined to name the children, all younger than 10 years.

Family members have been unable to pinpoint a restaurant or other place where all the children were together.
