1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 refrigerated pie crust from 15-ounce package), softened as directed on the package or 1 homemade pie crust
1 large apple, peeled, and cored, cut into 12 pieces
Syrup:
1 cup water
cup granulated sugar
teaspoon vanilla
cup butter or margarine
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Stir together 1 tablespoon butter, the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Remove crust from pouch; unroll crust. Cut crust into 6 wedges. Place 2 pieces of apple in center of each wedge. Sprinkle each with about 1 tablespoon sugar mixture. Fold corners to center; pinch edges to seal. Place in pie plate.
In 2-quart saucepan, heat syrup ingredients to boiling. Continue to boil 3 to 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden and apple is tender. Serve dumpling warm with additional sauce from pie plate spooned over.
