Parks district gives $75,000 in grants

BOWLING GREEN - Seventeen Wood County communities will share in $75,000 from the Wood County Park District to make improvements at their local parks.

The district's board of trustees Monday approved the grants, which are made each year with proceeds from the park district's countywide, 0.7-mill operating levy.

Grant applications are reviewed by a panel of park professionals from outside the county who make recommendations to the board.

The biggest award - $13,411 - went to Perrysburg for playground safety surfacing and curbing, while Bowling Green received $10,363 for safety netting at ball diamonds.

Other communities receiving grants are:

•Cygnet, $7,300 for playground safety surfacing.

•Haskins, $7,000 for playground safety surfacing.

•Hoytville, $962 for swing sets and hardware.

•Lake Township, $1,000 for playground equipment.

•Luckey, $1,645 for playground safety surfacing.

•Millbury, $3,000 for benches and trash cans.

•North Baltimore, $2,359 for playground equipment.

•Pemberville, $1,448 for trash receptacles.

•Perrysburg Township, $8,689 for playground safety surfacing.

•Portage Township, $4,710 for ballfield fence and top protection.

•Risingsun, $800 for restroom modifications.

•Rossford, $2,500 for grills.

•Troy Township, $2,200 for playground equipment.

•Washington Township, $4,978 for a swing set and $160 to seal a basketball court.

•Weston, $2,475 for picnic tables.
