Sandusky Co. group s record-keeping chided

COLUMBUS The Sandusky County Agricultural Society did not maintain proper records on admission to grandstand events, so it could not properly account for public money collected there, according to a state audit released yesterday.

Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor released the 2005-06 audit of the agricultural society, saying it is putting the public s money at risk because members did not account for all tickets given for distribution and did not prepare any reconciliations between expected and actual revenue.

Grandstand admissions accounted for 30 percent and 32 percent of all admissions revenue in fiscal years 2006 and 2005, respectively, according to the audit.

Other significant findings in the audit report were that financial records were not compared to bank records on a regular basis, and they were not property stored and maintained.

The society acknowledged the audit findings and will implement proper policies and procedures to address the issues.
