Man killed in gyrocopter crash in Erie Township

(Posted at 4:09 p.m.) ERIE, Mich. A Temperance, Mich., man was killed today when his experimental aircraft on its maiden flight crashed in a bean field just west of a grass airstrip, authorities said. Daniel P. Grochowski, 38 , died when his gyrocopter crashed shortly before 2:30 p.m. in a bean field near Telegraph and Temperance Roads. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Erie Township Fire Chief David Duvall said.

(Posted at 3:30 p.m.) Richard Brown, 33, a candidate for the Toledo Board of Education, was indicted today on six counts that involve child endangerment and disseminating harmful materials to juveniles. According to the Lucas County Prosecutor s Office, two of the endangering charges relate to corporal punishment, two deal with coercing juveniles or minors into posing for a photographer, and two involve handing out material including nudity to children.

(Posted at 12:20 p.m.) COLUMBUS The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation s former chief finance officer this morning pleaded guilty to failing to disclose gifts received from a New York investment firm doing business from the bureau. James S. McLean, 53 of Dublin, was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution fines, and court costs, for his first-degree misdemeanor conviction of filing a false 2004 financial disclosure statement with the Ohio Ethics Commission.

(Posted at 10:30 a.m.) A Toledo firefighter was hurt early today while helping fight a house fire of an-as-yet undetermined origin at 1402 Prouty Ave. near Spencer Street in south Toledo, authorities said.

(Posted at 12:30 p.m.) DOVER, Del. Two students were shot and wounded, one seriously, at Delaware State University early Friday, and the campus was locked down as police searched for a gunman, officials said.

(Posted at 11:20 a.m.) BOSTON An MIT student with a fake bomb strapped to her chest was arrested at gunpoint Friday at Logan International Airport and later claimed it was artwork, officials said.
