The Blade s Road Warrior advises readers each Friday where the biggest driving headaches will be throughout the construction season. He ll tell you the locations

to avoid and the detours to take.

The Road Warrior took a trip through Chicago and back on I-80 last week and discovered, with delight, that the construction plaguing this route between Gary,

Ind., and the Tri-State Tollway for several years is virtually finished.

Having four lanes instead of three, which diminishes the nerve-jangling impact of heavy truck traffic between I-65 and the I-80/I-94 split, was especially pleasant.

There s still plenty of construction elsewhere in the Chicago area, but at least this one particularly painful thorn has been pulled.

On the down side, Illinois Tollway fares have doubled, but that seems to be the trend everywhere.

Indiana s are going up next.

Closer to home, a third work zone will be appearing on Airport Highway during the next few days, if it already hasn t: New pavement markings are to be painted between Holland-Sylvania and Holloway roads. And if that weren t enough, there s also the occasional risk of lane closings on eastbound Airport at Holloway because of a building construction project on that corner.
