Detroit Metro airport moves cell-phone waiting area

9/26/2007

ROMULUS, Mich. - Detroit Metropolitan-Wayne County Airport has moved the cell-phone waiting area for the North Terminal to a new, larger location, thus moving it out of the way of upcoming construction.

The new cell-phone waiting area is next to on-airport rental car facilities off East Service Drive near Lucas Drive.

Motorists approaching the airport from the south who are meeting travelers at the North Terminal should follow signs for Rental Car Return and North Cell Phone Lot to use the waiting area, which has room for 37 vehicles.

The cell-phone waiting area gives motorists a place to wait near the terminal for arriving passengers to be ready for pick-up without clogging the curb area in front of the terminal or circling the area on airport roads.

When ready to be picked up, passengers summon the driver meeting them via cell phone.

Motorists using the cell-phone waiting area must remain in their vehicles, with unattended vehicles subject to ticket or tow.

Those needing to park to meet arriving passengers should use one of the airport's designated lots.
