Ceremony opens stretch of hiking-biking trail

A stretch of the Wabash Cannonball Trail was officially opened yesterday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Lucas County Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak.

The newest portion of the hiking/biking trail covers 3.5 miles and runs from the Fulton County Line to Yawberg Road and the Black Road connector to the North Fork.

The total cost of the project is about $1.8 million, and county officials said the bill was paid mostly with federal transportation dollars.

The Wabash trail now consists of 21 miles of paved trail open for public use.

The project s next phase will be for the developers of the Shops at Fallen Timbers to build a path linking the trail to the mall site and to the nearby Toledo Area Metroparks footbridge over U.S. 24.
