Water treatment system to go online in Delphos

10/11/2007

DELPHOS, Ohio A long-awaited water supply and treatment system will go online today in Delphos some 40 years after city officials began talking about how to get more and better water.

At 10:30 a.m., Mayor Gerald Neumeier will activate pumps that will supply water from a new, 450 million-gallon reservoir, while Council President Robert Ulm will initiate the computerized startup process for the new water treatment plant. The combined $18 million project is going online a year after a new $31.8 wastewater treatment plant went into operation.

Mr. Ulm said Delphos has debated how to improve water quantity and quality since the early 1960s, and now it can use its ample water supply to attract new business and industry to the city. He said he s glad to see the issue settled.

Elections have been won or lost because of it, he said. Our image in the region took a considerable beating in the 1990s because we did so much arguing over what course to take.
