Former V.P. Al Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize

(Posted at 5:16 a.m.) OSLO, Norway Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N. s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures needed to counteract it. Gore, who won an Academy Award this year for his film An Inconvenient Truth, a documentary on global warming, had been widely expected to win the prize.

While the sequence of events that resulted in damage to Fermi II s steam lines remains under investigation, officials today have ruled out sabotage as a possible cause. Detroit Edison Co., the plant s operator, has determined that the damage occurred during the removal of pipe insulation. What initially was reported as several holes turned out to be one, with multiple indentations of varying depths, the NRC said.
