MOUNT BLANCHARD, Ohio - An 8-year-old boy was hurt Wednesday night when the bicycle he was riding and a minivan collided in this southeastern Hancock County town, authorities said.

Chase M. Southward, of Mount Blanchard, was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's office. A hospital spokesman said Thursday that she had no information about a person by that name.

The boy was riding his bicycle east in the alley between 407 and 501 South Main St. about 5:40 p.m. when the bicycle chain broke and he rode into the southbound lane of South Main and into the path of a minivan driven by Timothy R. Sons of Forest, Ohio, who was southbound on the road, sheriff's deputies said.

Mr. Sons applied the brakes but the minivan hit the bicycle with the front bumper, throwing the boy off the bicycle onto the pavement, they said.

Mr. Sons was not hurt. No citations were issued, sheriff's deputies said.

Mount Blanchard is about 50 miles south of Toledo.
