2 hurt in crash near Liberty Center remain hospitalized
10/24/2007LIBERTY CENTER, Ohio Two of the four Ottawa-Glandorf High School girls hurt in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday in northern Henry County s Liberty Township remained in a hospital Wednesday and the other two have been treated and released, authorities said.
The girls were hurt when the car in which they were riding ran a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming sport utility vehicle, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Brittany R. Kiracofe, 17, of Ottawa, Ohio, was listed in fair condition Wednesday morning in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, a hospital spokesman said.
Miss Kiracofe was the driver of the car carrying the high school girls, a dispatcher at the Ohio Highway Patrol s Bowling Green post said.
A backseat passenger, who was in the vehicle carrying the high school girls, was also flown to St. Vincent Mercy, troopers at the patrol s Bowling Green post said.
She remained in the hospital Wednesday, William Hanna, the school principal said. He withheld her name. Her condition Wednesday was unknown.
The other two passengers in the car were treated at Henry County Hospital, Napoleon. Authorities did not release their names. Mr. Hanna said Wednesday that they have been released from the hospital.
The other driver Mickey J. Avalos, 39, of Swanton was taken to the same hospital, troopers said. A hospital spokesman did not release his condition Wednesday morning, citing privacy laws.
Miss Kiracofe was driving a Pontiac Grand Am north on State Rt. 109 about 6:40 p.m. when she failed to stop at a stop sign before turning left onto U.S. 24, and a Jeep traveling east crashed into the driver s side of the car, troopers said.
The girls were going to watch a volleyball match at Liberty Center High School, where a district tournament was being held, Mr. Hanna said.
Liberty Center is about 30 miles southwest of Toledo.
