The Blade s Road Warrior advises readers each Friday where the biggest driving headaches will be throughout the construction season. He ll tell you the locations

to avoid and the detours to take.

Motorists headed to the Ohio State-Michigan game tomorrow have some construction relief coming from MDOT: both northbound lanes will be open by tomorrow morning on U.S. 23 north of Dundee, where one lane has been closed for construction since springtime.

Alas, the going won t be so good for the return trip from Ann Arbor. We strongly recommend avoiding southbound U.S. 23, which will continue to have one lane

closed between Milan and Dundee. Use I-94 to I-275 instead.

That bumpy Woodville Road railroad crossing leading into the Sunoco refinery east of Holmes Street is going to be repaired this weekend, but at the price of a 36-hour detour.

Starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Woodville (State Rt. 51) will be closed between Holmes and Pickle Road, except for driveway access.

A contractor doing the crossing repairs is expected to complete its work by 9 p.m. Sunday. Traffic will be detoured via Navarre Avenue and Wheeling Street. With congestion likely on the detour route, especially during the afternoons, we recommend that motorists who normally use Woodville to reach I-280 in Northwood

use Front Street instead. Taking East Broadway to Oakdale Avenue is another option, but one that is vulnerable to train delays at several railroad crossings.

Construction that has closed Laskey Road between Crabb and Tractor roads, with through traffic detoured at Telegraph Road and Lewis Avenue, is scheduled to end on Monday, city officials say.

This is the final Road Warrior column of the 2007 construction season. Several of the projects listed below will continue, usually in abbreviated form, through the winter, while others are either about to wrap up or are short-term, end-of-season work.
