Another meeting set on waterline in Spencer Township

11/28/2007

Two Lucas County commissioners yesterday approved the scheduling of another public meeting regarding a proposed waterline along Dorr Street and other roads in Spencer Township.

The meeting is set for 2 p.m. Jan. 8 to discuss assessment fees for the waterline, which were debated by about 20 residents at the last public meeting on the subject on Nov. 13.

The county appears ready to charge residents who live along the proposed waterline per foot of property frontage rather than a fee of $8,794 per property for properties 19 acres and smaller, as first proposed.

Properties ranging from 20 to 30 acres would have been charged for two units, and so on.

According to the resolution amended yesterday by Commissioners Tina Skeldon Wozniak and Ben Konop, county Sanitary Engineer Jim Shaw "reviewed and revised the tentative assessment" for the waterline "on the basis of the county's customary foot frontage methodology."

The amended resolution said the change was made to reflect the concerns of residents who said being charged based on property units and sizes was unfair.

Mr. Shaw yesterday said the cost of the project also has been revised.

He said residents will be charged about $46 per foot of property frontage, rather than the original estimate of $52.

Commissioner Pete Gerken was not at yesterday's commissioners' meeting. Ms. Wozniak said he was at another meeting.
