Sandusky man indicted in nursing home rapes

SANDUSKY A Sandusky man has been indicted by an Erie County grand jury on charges of rape involving two patients at the Concord Care Center where he worked.

John Riems was indicted on two counts each of rape, sexual battery, and patient abuse. The indictments yesterday involved two victims.

Mr. Riems, 49, was arrested Jan. 21 after a Perkins Township police detective and an Erie County sheriff s detective said he confessed to not only raping and abusing a 55-year-old male Concord Care Center resident for whom the officers originally questioned him, but about 100 nursing home patients over the course of his more than 20-year career, which began in 1985.

The indictment yesterday included a second victim, who is believed to be in his 80s.

Mr. Riems faces almost 50 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
