A crash late Friday morning involving two tractor-trailer rigs, on of which caught fire, has closed northbound I-75 at the Ohio-Michigan border.

According to the Toledo Fire Department, one driver was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries. Early reports from the scene indicated that diesel fuel and paint were spilled.

Backed-up traffic in both directions initially was impeding scene access for emergency vehicles, which were dispatched north into Monroe County and directed to enter I-75 at Exit 2 and return southbound. The crash was just south of the state line.

Firefighters used a hole in the sound barrier wall on the east side of the freeway to get water from the nearest fire hydrants and extinguish the blaze by about 12:30 p.m. By that time the southbound traffic on the interstate started moving.

The closest available alternate routes for motorists are Detroit Avenue to either Telegraph Road (U.S. 24) or Dixie Highway (M-125), or I-475 to U.S. 23.
