Evening fire damages South Toledo business

Fire crews remained on the scene at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Myers Hearth & Casual, 808 North Reynolds Rd., where a blaze caused an estimated $120,000 in damage to the structure and contents, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 5:23 p.m., and authorities believe no one was inside the store when the fire started.

The cause of the fire was being investigated Saturday night.

A firefighter was treated at the scene for dehydration.

A rollover crash Saturday on the southbound US 23 overpass at Sylvania Avenue injured one person and slowed traffic in the southbound lanes, the Ohio Highway patrol said. The accident occurred about 2:40 p.m. in Sylvania Township.

A person was shot early Saturday on Byrneport Drive near Airport Highway and South Byrne Road in South Toledo, authorities said. The victim, whose name and condition were not released, was admitted to an area hospital, where he was transported by a private ambulance, according to the Lucas County EMS.

NEW YORK - Pope Benedict XVI came to preach at St. Patrick's cathedral Saturday, the third anniversary of his election at pope, feted by cardinals and bishops, priests and nuns who jammed the magnificent Gothic church on Fifth Avenue. He was met outside by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, while former Mayor Rudy Giuliani was inside.
