BOWLING GREEN - A Middleton Township firefighter was hurt yesterday when a water tanker he was driving to an injury accident overturned on State Rt. 582 near I-75, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The firefighter, John Bondy, was trapped in the wreckage for about 20 minutes.

He was treated at St. Luke's Hospital.

The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. in Wood County's Middleton Township near Bowling Green, troopers at the patrol's Bowling Green post said.

The tanker was westbound on Route 582 when it slid off the right edge of the narrow road, went back onto the road, and rolled over onto its roof.

The tanker then went off the left side of the road and hit a guardrail and a utility pole before coming to a rest, troopers said.

The tanker was heading to a crash on I-75 just south of Route 582, where a car went off the road, injuring the driver.

The injury appeared to be minor, troopers said.
