Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has been appointed to a gubernatorial commission planning future transportation development in Ohio.

Gov. Ted Strickland appointed Mr. Finkbeiner to the 21st Century Transportation Commission last week, and he will serve on the task force s Generating Economic Development subcommittee.

Mr. Finkbeiner joins Tony Reams, president of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments; James Hartung, president of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, and Mark Vonderembse, professor of information operations and technology management at the University of Toledo, as commission members.

Last month, The Blade reported that the commission included only two representatives from Toledo, a number that has since grown to four.

The commission is holding meetings around the state, including a session June 10 at the University of Toledo.
