Two people spent about 10 minutes in Lake Erie waters after their canoe capsized Monday afternoon about a mile off shore between Grassy Island and the Lost Peninsula near Toledo. They were rescued with the help from U.S. Coast Guard crews, authorities said.

Details of the incident were sketchy.

About 1:45 p.m., a boater saw the two people in the water near a capsized 12-foot aluminum canoe, Coast Guard officers in Detroit said.

About 10 minutes later, rescue crews arrived, helped pull the two boaters to safety, checked out their medical conditions, and reported that both were in good condition, officers said.

The names of the rescued boaters were not released. It was not reported whether they were wearing life jackets.
