Motorcyclist killed in crash near Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON A Shelby, Ohio, man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving crashed Sunday night west of this Ottawa County community, closing the ramp for an hour, authorities said.

Timothy Schumacher, 55, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol headquarters in Columbus.

The crash happened about 6:40 p.m. on the eastbound entrance ramp from State Rt. 163 to State Rt. 2 in Ottawa County s Portage Township.

Mr. Schumacher was driving on the ramp when he failed to round a curve and drove off the right side of the ramp, causing the motorcycle to strike a guardrail, troopers said.

The cause of the accident was under investigation Monday morning.

Port Clinton is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
