Bowling Green BMV office keeps donor recruits title

BOWLING GREEN - For the fifth year in a row, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in Bowling Green signed up the most organ donors in northwest Ohio.

Of the 19,678 people who received or renewed their state driver's license or identification cards in Bowling Green last year, 12,324 consented to being donors.

That's 62.6 percent - a record. The former one was 61 percent, set in 2006.

The bureau, 1616 East Wooster St., is to receive the "Front Line Award" Monday at its office from Donate Life Ohio, a statewide consortium of organ, eye, and tissue recovery agencies.

The Perrysburg BMV had the second highest sign-up rate in northwest Ohio - 62 percent -and Norwalk's agency was third. Statewide, 52 percent of people getting driver's licenses or ID cards joined the donor registry.
