Two hurt in fiery crash near Port Clinton

PORT CLINTON, Ohio Two people, including an East Toledo woman, escaped with their lives in a fiery crash Tuesday on State Rt. 2 northwest of this Ottawa County community, authorities said.

Jenapher Parks, 24, of 615 Valleywood Dr., the driver, was taken to Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, and then airlifted to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. Ms. Parks was listed in fair condition next morning, a hospital spokesman said.

Ms. Parks only passenger, whose identity hadn t been determined, was airlifted from the scene of the crash directly to St. Vincent Mercy, troopers at the patrol s Sandusky post said. The passenger s condition was not released.

The crash occurred about 6:05 p.m. off Route 2 just east of Carroll-Erie Road in Ottawa County s Erie Township.

The car was westbound on Route 2 when it drove off the north side of the road, continued along a ditch line, then struck a culvert and overturned. Both occupants had climbed out of the car before it became fully engulfed in flames, troopers said.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.

Port Clinton is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
