WINDSOR, Ont. - Canadian officials say they've selected a location for a new bridge across the Detroit River to ease traffic congestion at one of North America's busiest border crossings.

Canadian participants in the Detroit River International Crossing study recommended yesterday the bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, should be near the Brighton Beach area in western Windsor. On the U.S. side, public meetings still are scheduled. A decision about a possible location is expected to be announced in the fall.

The Detroit International Bridge Co. also has been working on plans to build a second bridge over the Detroit River. The company says its 78-year-old Ambassador Bridge costs too much to maintain.
