Woodmore board nixes August levy vote

7/1/2008

WOODVILLE, Ohio - Voters in the Woodmore School District won't see a permanent improvement levy on the August ballot.

The Board of Education yesterday approved a resolution halting plans to seek passage of the five-year, 2-mill levy.

Such a levy, which likely will appear on the November ballot, is needed to repair Woodmore's schools, which were rated fourth on the Ohio School Facilities Commission's list of districts with exceptional needs, and an aging fleet of buses.

"We're trying to be as cost-effective as possible about what we're asking for, so we decided to wait," Superintendent Jane Garling said.

The levy that would have been on the August ballot would have raised at least $278,000 a year, compared to the $119,000 the current 1-mill levy raises.
