A 5-year-old girl was injured when a gas explosion rocked her family s two-story home on Glenwood Road in Perrysburg Township on Thursday afternoon.

Julie Parrish, who was taken by neighbors to St. Luke s Hospital where she was being treated for a gash on the top of her foot, was in the kitchen when the explosion occurred about 3 p.m.

Four other family members who were in another part of the house escaped injury, but were shaken by the window-popping, foundation-busting experience.

Escaping injury were Tony Parrish, Julie s father, and Julie s siblings Anthony Parrish, 22, who was visiting from his home in Fairfield, Conn., Jennifer McNutt, 15, and Jessica McNutt, 13. Julie s mother Margie Parrish was at work when the explosion happened, family members said.

Tom Brice, deputy chief of the Perrysburg Township Fire Department, said an investigation is being conducted into the cause of the explosion.

Because of extensive structural damage, the home, located at 29640 Glenwood, likely is a total loss, he said.
