Man, 88, killed by crash backing out of driveway

SANDUSKY, Ohio An 88-year-old man backing out of his driveway on Cedar Point Road was killed Saturday when his pickup was hit on the driver s side by a northbound sport utility vehicle, police said.

James Scally was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky after the 11:55 a.m. crash at 905 Cedar Point Rd.

Mr. Scally was pronounced dead of multiple blunt-force injuries soon after arriving at the hospital, Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner, said last night.

The driver and passengers in the other vehicle were two women and several children, including some who lived along Cedar Point Road, police said.

Sgt. Rich Cotterill of the Sandusky Police Department said the driver of the SUV was traveling below the posted speed limit and was not at fault.

Mr. Scally apparently was backing across Cedar Point Road to another driveway opposite his own when the crash happened, police said
