Archbold man, 31, is killed as train hits van

BRYAN - A 31-year-old Archbold, Ohio, man was killed early yesterday when the minivan he was driving was hit by a freight train at a crossing in Pulaski Township, authorities said.

William Figy was pronounced dead at the scene after the 4:05 a.m. collision, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred at the Williams County Road 18 crossing, about three miles northeast of Bryan, near the road's intersection with County Road E-50.

Mr. Figy was southbound on Road 18 when his minivan was struck broadside by a westbound train on the northerly of two parallel tracks, troopers said.

Neither of two crewmen aboard the train was hurt.

The crossing is equipped with warning lights and gates, troopers said. Mr. Figy was wearing a seat belt.
