Authorities yesterday identified the man killed Sunday night when his motorcycle hit a train at the Nebraska Avenue grade crossing between Brown and Montrose avenues in central Toledo.

Killed was Nathaniel White, 66, of Deerwood Lane in South Toledo, the Lucas County Coroner's Office said.

Mr. White, who was westbound on Nebraska just west of Brown about 6:30 p.m., crashed through the crossing gate and hit the southbound Norfolk Southern freight train, police said.

Witnesses told police Mr. White applied the brakes just as he reached the center part of the crossing gate, which was in the down position.
