Fostoria will prosecute West Millgrove traffic cases

FOSTORIA The city law director figures Fostoria stands to earn about $3,000 a year for handling traffic citations issued in the Wood County village of West Millgrove.

Tim Hoover told city council Tuesday that his office has contracted with West Millgrove to prosecute traffic cases.

The village previously had a mayor s court that handled the cases, but closed it down this year. The village had been the subject of at least two lawsuits filed by people who claimed to have been illegally prosecuted in West Millgrove.

They alleged the mayor s court was illegal because Ohio law says a village must have at least 100 people to operate a mayor s court, and West Millgrove only had 78 people in the 2000 census.
