Authorities yesterday identified the race-car driver killed Friday night at Toledo Speedway as 36-year-old Terry Gibson, of LaRue, Ohio.

He was killed when four cars collided and his car hit a wall at about 110 mph, officials said.

The crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. in Turn 1 of the half-mile track, according to Lucas County coroner's investigator Charlie Hunt. He said that after the four cars collided, Mr. Gibson's car spun out and its rear hit the wall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma to the head, Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said.

It was the first race of the evening and fans said the crash occurred on the third lap of the race in the Super Modified division.

The last fatal accident on the track occurred in June, 2000, and that was believed to have been the first.
