342 vehicles carrying hazardous material cited

Authorities found 342 vehicles improperly transporting hazardous materials during a recent tri-state crackdown on such activity and unsafe commercial motor vehicles, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

During inspections July 16, troopers in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana stopped 919 vehicles, 429 of which were transporting hazardous materials.

The inspections resulted in 1,384 equipment and driver violations and put 107 vehicles and 27 drivers out of service for serious violations, the patrol said.

Troopers issued 209 traffic citations for a variety of violations, including overweight vehicles, speeding, unqualified drivers, unsafe equipment, and hazardous materials violations.
