1 killed, 2 hurt when motorcycle, car crash

HURON, Ohio One man was killed and two people, including a little boy, were hurt yesterday in a car-motorcycle collision on Rye Beach Road at State Rt. 2 in Erie County s Huron Township, authorities said.

Charles A. Downing, 58, of Milan, Ohio, who was operating the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.

His passenger, Ann M. Downing, 41, also of Milan, was taken to Firelands and later flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where she was admitted in serious condition.

A passenger in the car, Andrew C. Hovanec, 3, of New Brighton, Pa., about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, also was taken to Firelands and later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he was in good condition.

Mr. Downing was southbound on Rye Beach Road just after midnight when he struck the northbound car carrying a family of five from New Brighton. Driver Aimee Hovanec, the 3-year-old s mother, was turning left onto a westbound ramp of Route 2. Mr. Downing and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle, authorities said.

Mrs. Hovanec, 34; her husband, Martin, 30, and her two other children, Natalie Hovanec, 5, and Tamara D. Wilson, 10, were treated at Firelands.
